Merseyside Woodturners, as a club, has had a reputation for its strong interest in spindle turning. Traditionally the major use for spindle turned items has been in the construction of furniture. When you look at spindle turning, you can see that there may be many involved repeated elements, requiring a high degree of skill to ensure an acceptable level of uniformity. This section contains forms which have been shaped internally through an entry hole in the neck of the vessel, thus forming an enclosed shape, hence the term hollow. The categories of boxes and goblets are also included, since producing these allied shapes uses similar techniques. To view this gallery, click here or on the image.
There are always items of woodturning which combine the broad descriptions of spindle turning and faceplate turning. Items which fall into this category usually get termed as miscellaneous, which tends to sell them rather short, since they combine two different but equally skillful woodturning disciplines.
